Masale Bath

Masale Bath is very famous in Maharashtra. In most of the marriages Masale  Bath /rice is cooked and served with   Mattha (spiced buttermilk) and Jalebi. We often make masale bath at home too. Its a very famous combo.

My mother cooks this rice so well that,  I don't eat anything other than this rice. You can prepare this rice with different varieties by adding Tondali (Ivy ground), Brinjal (Eggplant) etc.

Today I have made my mother's own variety of masale bath to celebrate Mother's Day!!

Wish you all a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Rice (uncooked)
  • 1 Potato(chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Peas (used frozen)
  • 1 tsp Ginger and Garlic Paste
  • 3-4 Green chilies
  • 1/4 Cup Fresh Coconut
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Cardamom
  • 1 small piece Cinnamon
  • 1 Bay leaf(chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Coriander leave + more for garnish
  • 1-2 tsp Ghee (optional)
  • 2-3 Tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste
Method:
Dry roast the cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and make a powder and set it aside.
Make a fine paste of Green chilies, coriander leaves, garlic, cumin seeds and little water.

Heat the pan with oil, add cumin seeds,  cuury leaves, bay leaf,  potatoes and fry everything till the potatoes turn little brown. Add above made chili paste, green peas, rice, termeric powder, required quantity of water and stir for few minutes. Add cinnamon  powder, cardamom powder, clove powder, and cook till rice and  potatoes are tender. (Add ghee when rice starts to boil).

Garnish with Fresh coconut, coriander leaves and lemon wages.

Serve with ghee  Mattha (spiced buttermilk) & Jalebi
