Patvadi

Hello Every one..I am so happy to publish a Guest post today. This recipe is made by Mrs Madvi V. She is my Co-Sister. She is participating in Mother's Day Event.
It was such a surprise when I saw her e-mail for the event. Thank you Madhavi for taking so much interest and participating in the event.

I hope all my blogger friends will sure like this authentic  Maharashtrian dish Patvadi.

 Here the recipe comes!!!

Ingredients:
  • Besan (Gram flour) - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Mustard seeds - 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds - 1 pinch
  • Asefotida - 1pinch
  • Green chillies - 6-7 or as per your choice
  • Ginger-garlic paste -1 tsp
  • Curry leaves-5-6
  • Coconut - finely grated 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves(generous amount)
  • 1/4 cup oil (this recipe requires a more of oil else the vadi might break)
  • Salt to taste
  • Poppy seeds - 1 tsp ( untoasted)
  • 1/2 cup water.
Procedure:

 1. Coarsely grind ginger, garlic, green chillies, coriander, curry leaves, coconut.(paste should not be too smooth nor too coarse and do not add water.)

 2. Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asefotida and the above grinded paste. Then stir it for a while and turmeric powder & salt as per taste.

 3. Now add 1/2 cup water & let it come to boil.Once it is boiled slowly add besan(no lumps should be formed), keep mixing and stirring.

 4. Close the lid & let it cook for 7-8 min.

 5. Remove it from heat & spread it immediately on a greased, flat dish, spread it not much thinner with help of oily palm & allow to cool for 10-15 min. (as shown in below pic)

 6. Now spread poppy seeds and grated coconut and with a help of knife make a rectangle/square shaped wadi.

Patvadi are ready to serve.

 Note:
  • If you don't know adding besan directly to the boiling water then make a soft paste of besan and little water and this paste slowly and continuous stirring to the boiling water. I followed this method to make patvadi.
  • If you want you can add Red chili powder instead of Green chilies.
  • They are other version where you can add Tamarind and Sugar cane juice(instead of water).
