Mattha (Spiced Butter Milk)



Mattha: (spiced buttermilk)
  • 1 cup Curd
  • 1 tsp (besan)
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger paste
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Salt and Sugar to taste.
  • Water as per the consistency desired.
In a mixie add all the above ingredients and blend everything. If you like frothy then whip it.....

Variation: Can add Mint for more flavor.

Mattha you can drink like that or goes very well with Masale Bath / Rice.

Mattha looks really nice, We call it sambaram, grandma makes big pot so that everybody can drink as much they wish.

wow! This is a new version of spiced buttermilk. I always hate the floating chilies, cilantro, ginger etc, on the buttermilk my mom makes! I always ask her to remove them. I think I should send your recipe to her :) A great refreshing summer drink!

ok i am glad that this came up Mattha is a deshashtha reply to koknastha solkadi whereas Sambaram tastes excellent when prepared with rock salt / jada namak, curry leaves, green chillies, ginger. Garlic,Besan and Coconut milk are absent in sambaram but nevertheless all have one thing in common apart from being good appetizers.. THEY TASTE DIVINE.. Jai Ho!
